Can you tell me if emu oil can be used for hair growth? Can it be used alone or should it be mixed in any other oil? If not, how can it be used? Please let me know as I have a lot of hair falling out.
Reply: Thank you for your question about emu oil. There are a number of reasons for hair loss. Doctors believe hair loss can be caused by hormones, certain drugs, infections, disease or diet. There is also the possibility of inflammation of the hair follicle or scalp causing the hair loss.
Emu oil has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. If your hair loss is due to inflammation of the scalp or hair follicle, there may be a possibility you could use emu oil. Unfortunately, there are no medical studies looking at using emu oil for hair growth so I cannot tell you if this would work for you.
Emu oil is usually applied topically. You can take a couple of drops on your finger and massage it onto the area you wish to treat. You can get emu oil mixed with other oils, but I would try using 100% pure emu oil.

When applying the Emu oil to the hair and scalp, do I have to rinse out or am I able to leave oil in scalp for a few days before washing. I am African American and I generally do not wash my hair daily.
Do you think emu oil is safe to leave on the hair and scalp? Then just wash it out every few days and re-apply?
Reply: Unless you have some kind of medical condition that affects your hair or scalp, it should be completely safe to use emu oil. Some of the main health benefits of emu oil is it's non-comedogenic, it's easily absorbed by the skin, and it has anti-inflammatory properties. These properties can only offer positive benefits for the hair and scalp. The oil may offer more benefits if it's not washed out and allowed to naturally absorb into the scalp and then re-applied as required.
