Krill extract is one of the newest nutritional supplements on the market. It contains a unique combination of omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and phospholipids.
Research studies show this product may help reduce PMS symptoms, relieve inflammatory joint pain and reduce high cholesterol levels.
The extract is harvested from small shrimp-like creatures called krill. Due to the amazing health benefits of this new product, more and more nutritional supplement companies are coming out with their own version to cash in on the increased demand from health consumers.
In a race to get ahead of the competition, a Canadian company called Neptune Technologies and Biosciences was the first company out of the starting blocks to patent their process for extracting krill oil and establishing double-blind studies.

Neptune Technologies named their product Neptune Krill Oil (NKO) and it was one of the first krill supplements to hit the nutritional supplement industry.
Neptune Technologies claims to have developed a proprietary cold-extraction process for making their krill extract. It's believed this process may help reduce the risk for heat damage and protects the active ingredients from oxidation. Their exclusive extraction process is so unique that they've patented it in a number of countries.
There are currently three major companies that produce the krill oils:
Neptune Technologies - produces Neptune Krill Oil
AkerBiomarine - produces Superba Krill Oil
Enzymotec - produces K-Real Krill Oil

I believe the major difference between Neptune and the other companies is their patented extraction process.
The marketing literature I've seen seen claims their product is 48 times stronger than fish oil, over 300 times stronger than vitamin A and E, a more powerful antioxidant than Co-enzyme Q-10 and many times stronger than lycopene.
Whether or not this is true is up for debate as competing krill companies believe most krill extracts provide the same health benefits regardless of how it is extracted and processed.
Here's what you'll get in every 1000 mg. soft gel of genuine Neptune Krill:
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) - 150 mg
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) - 90 mg
Phospholipids, Omega-3 rich - 400 mg
Omega-3 fatty acids, total - 300 mg
Omega-6 fatty acids - 20 mg
Omega-9 fatty acids - 60 mg
Astaxanthin - 1.5 mg
Choline - 73 mg
Other krill supplements may not provide this exact same blend of ingredients, however, you will still get the EPA, DHA, astaxanthin and the phospholipid-base in similar products. I'm sure the competing krill extract companies, such as AkerBiomarine and Enzymotec, may believe their products are just as good, if not better, than Neptune Technology's products.
Here are a few pictures of some popular nutritional supplement companies that sell Neptune Technologies' product under their private labels:

One of the advantages of using Neptune krill extract is that it's the first krill oil supplement to be used in major clinical studies. All of the following studies used genuine NKO supplements:
NKO and PMS Symptoms - Researchers find NKO was more effective at reducing PMS symptoms than fish oils; it also reduced the amount of pain medication used to relieve these symptoms.
NKO and Pain Management - reduced painful joint stiffness by over 20% and lowerd a chemical marker for inflammation by almost 30%.
Reduce the Risk for Skin Cancer - may reduce the risk for skin cancer by almost 50% by absorbing dangerous free radicals.
Lower Unhealthy Cholesterol Levels - could reduce cholesterol levels by almost 40%.
Neptune Krill from Neptune Technologies offers many health benefits not found in many omega 3 fatty acid products. While there is still debate on whether it's superior to fish oils and other krill supplements, it's growing in popularity among many health conscious consumers seeking a unique supplement that offers a broad range of benefits.
