Hi Wesley, How much fish oil to take will depend on your age, general health and if you have any medical or health conditions.

A scientific organization, based in the UK, looked at a number of fish oil studies and suggested that normal healthy adults should get about 500 mg/day of EPA and DHA.

If you have coronary heart disease, the American Heart Association recommends you take one gram a day of EPA and DHA. If you wish to lower triglyceride levels, they recommend two to four grams a day of EPA and DHA.

I haven't located any medical studies looking at when to take fish oil supplements. I usually like to take my fish oils just before or after a meal.

Some people might believe it's better to take the fish oils on an empty stomach to improve absorption but there's no scientific data to support this.

I haven't seen any fish oil manufacturer that recommends when to take fish oil; they simply list recommended dosages on the bottle.

Whether you take fish oils on an empty stomach or during a meal, our bodies probably get the same health benefits no matter when we take them.
