Will Coconut Oil Help With Hair Loss?

Hi Jackie, While there are many benefits of coconut oil, I don't believe it can help replace lost hair or regrow hair. Some people have reported using coconut oil on hair made their hair thicker, fuller and softer.

Some people have had success using fish oils for hair loss; but I believe these may only work if there is an inflammatory component causing the hair loss. The omega 3 fatty acids in fish oils do have anti-inflammatory properties, but you should know there are no published studies showing fish oils will cause hair growth or prevent further hair loss.

There are a number of factors that may cause hair loss; including hormones, certain drugs and stress. Some studies have shown minoxidil may have some positive effects in helping regrow hair, but I would recommend consulting with your Doctor before beginning any new treatments. You don't mention your age, but if you are peri-menopause or menopause, you might want to get your thyroid checked. Sometimes it starts to slow down around this time. I used to have a thick head of hair until age 46 when it started to fall out by the clumps. I was also under a great deal of stress. It would be worthwhile to see your doctor about this issue.
