I always keep tea tree oil handy for burns. If you apply it quickly after the burn the pain will disappear, plus the swelling doesn't come. The next day it's as if you never burned yourself.
Reply: Thank you for sharing your experience with using tea tree oil on burns. Tea tree oil has been shown to have some level of anti-inflammatory properties. While a study published in the Dec. 2002 edition of the Journal of Dermatology cited that tea tree oil may reduce histamine-induced skin inflammation, there is limited studies on using tea tree oil for actual treatment of burns. It may appear that the primary active ingredient in tea tree oil (Terpinen 4 OL) may exhibit some anti-inflammatory properties when it's applied to reduce skin burns.
It should be noted that some individuals may be exhibit some sensitivity to tea tree oil an should use caution when applying tea tree oil on burns. Some of the side effects of tea tree oil include skin sensitivity and mild irritation. Should you experience these symptoms, you may want to try using a tea tree oil with a lower concentration.
