Using Oil of Oregano On Open Wounds

My husband has an open wound in his groin area, it has been 12 months and no healing. He has been on meds for the last two weeks and in the past 6 months been on three prescriptions. He is a cancer patient, Hodgkins, and has become a diabetic. Could he use oregano oil as a treatment? A friend mentioned to me that she heard about oregano oil as a treatment for wounds.
Reply: Hi Virginia - Studies have shown that Oil of Oregano is effective against bacteria such as staph. However, I haven't found any medical research on the effects of putting Oil of Oregano on open wounds - or whether it's safe to do so. You could take Oil of Oregano as a nutritional supplement but whether or not this would be effective for a staph infection in a wound is unknown. I would contact your physician first before beginning any new dietary supplement. Good luck and I wish you and your husband all the best.
