Tea tree oil an accidental cure for skin lesion!

Last year I was using a mixture of tea tree oil and olive oil on my face to get rid of eyelash mites. I was using this mixture for a few months, and when I finally stopped after the mites were gone, I noticed that a red, scaly spot on my cheek, which had been there for nearly two years (not getting better or worse), was gone! This can only be attributed to the tea tree oil, as nothing else was different during that time. I am now applying tea tree oil to a similar spot on my nose, which I believe is sun-damaged skin. I'll write back if it works!

Reply: Tea tree oil has anti-septic properties shown to be effective against certain strains of bacteria. It's possible that this red scaly skin patch may have been a chronic skin infection. I was surprised read you used tea tree oil for eyelash mites; I would be concerned about using tea tree oil near the eye area, but it appears you achieved some positive results. Thanks for sharing your experience with tea tree oil and keep us posted on your progress! ~Kevin
