re: Using coconut oil to prevent hair burning during straightening
by: Kevin

Hi Ann, Thank you very much for sharing your experience with using coconut oil on your hair. Although I don't need to straighten my hair (although there are days when I wish I could have curly hair) I do know that heat can damage the hair shaft. I sometimes over-dry my hair with a blow dryer and do need to deep moisturize to prevent excessive dryness.

As you've already discovered, coconut oil is an excellent hair moisturizer. In fact, a study on coconut oil and dry hair showed the oil actually penetrates the hair shaft and reduces protein loss.

Thanks again for sharing your story. This information will be helpful for anyone that wants to maintain healthy hair while straightening it.
