Nutiva is a company that got a lot of attention in the late 1990’s when they introduced the very first hemp food bar to North America.
At the time, not many people knew about the nutritional value of hemp foods.
As the company grew, they started adding organic cold-pressed hemp oils, hemp protein powders, nutritious power bars, and of course, their trademark extra virgin organic coconut oil.
How Nutiva Coconut Oil is Made
Nutiva claims that their oil is certified organic and that uses non-genetically modified coconut crops.
In order to be considered organic, the coconuts have to as fresh as possible. Nutiva claims they wait no less than 10 hours between chopping up the coconut and then pressing out the oil.
Nutiva claims that their extra virgin coconut oil contains up to 50% lauric acid, which is being studied for its anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
While this is an impressive claim, there is actually no way to determine the lauric acid content without some sort of certificate of analysis.
At press time, the reviewer found this product to be very smooth, light and creamy.
We found it very similar in taste and texture as Tropical Traditions coconut oil and Garden of Life Coconut oil.
