Using Oil of Oregano on Dog Rashes

by Donna
(Breaux Bridge, LA)

I have heard that the oil helps with skin rashes(itching spots) on Golden Retrievers. How do I administer the oil (exp. mix with what to spray as a topical) how many drops? Or if I want to give orally. I have a 1 oz bottle.
Thanks for your help!

ANSWER: Hi Donna, I'm not experienced in using Oil of Oregano on animals. However, I would use the oil along the same lines that it's used in humans.

For topical use, I would try a small skin patch test to ensure there is no negative reactions. I usually use the oil at 100% strength. In the case of a dog, I would try using a couple of drops of Oil of Oregano on the rash and see if there are any negative side effects. If there is no problem then you should be alright with applying Oil of Oregano to your dog's coat.

I'm not experienced with giving Oil of Oregano to dogs and there are no research studies in this area so please use caution. Oil of Oregano does have a very strong spicy, oregano-like flavor that some people find distasteful and dogs may also agree.

Good luck and I hope Oil of Oregano can help you out in this situation. ~Kevin
