Using Fish Oils for Hair Loss

by Danielle

In regards to omega 3 fish oils and hair loss; twenty years ago, my hair was thinning gradually after taking birth control pills. I had stopped them approx. 12 years ago, but my hair continued to fall out. I had bald patches and male pattern baldness. I recently started taking 6 x 1500 mg Fish Oil (2 with each meal) and 6 x 1000 mg Evening Primose Oil and was pleasantly surprised that my hair is finally growing back after twenty years. I didn't take the oil capsules for that reason, so I absolutely believe that they do work for some people but it needs to be in high doses.

Hi Danielle, Thank you for submitting your experience with using fish oils for hair loss. Hair loss may be caused by a number of different reasons, such as diet, infections, genetics, drugs and hormones. Fish oils do have an anti-inflammatory effect and it's possible that some people may stop hair loss with fish oils - if there's an inflammatory condition in the scalp and hair follicle, such as alopecia. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any published medical studies on fish oils and hair loss so we may have to rely on personal testimonials and experiences of others. That being said, I think it's great to read about your results. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sure there are other people that may benefit from this.
