Using coconut oil on scalp psoriasis

Can coconut oil help with scalp psoriasis?

Reply: I haven't found any published medical studies on coconut oil and psoriasis, but I did visit The National Psoriasis Foundation website.

They have a Treatment Guide that lists products that were shown to be helpful in treating the symptoms of psoriasis.

One product listed under "Ointments, Lotions and Bases" is Mushatts No. 9 Psoriasis Skin Ointment Cream and Mushatts No. 9 Psoriasis Scalp Cream.

Mushatts No. 9 Psoriasis Skin Ointment is a medicated ointment that contains 5% coal tar in combination with zinc oxide, urea, coconut oil, tea tree oil, aloe vera, chamomile oil, eucalyptus oil and evening primrose oil in a moisturizing base. They formulated it to be used on thick, crusted, flaky skin.

The other product is a Scalp cream but it doesn't contain coconut oil. It does have salicylic acid, urea, sweet almond oil and sesame seed oil. They claim it helps stop itching & flaking, eliminates redness, moisturizes, controls recurrence and reduces scaling.

One member on the National Psoriasis Foundation's Forum posted a question about Dr. Oz mentioning virgin coconut oil for psoriasis. You can see the forum thread right here to learn more.

Good luck and I hope this information is helpful.
