Using Coconut Oil on Dry Skin

by Tammy

I've been using the coconut oil on my hair and skin. Love it on my hair. I have long, very thick, very coarse, curly hair and anything that seems to help it is expensive, so I love the oil on my hair. I am using it on my skin and once I put it on it feels soft to the touch but if I bend over or do anything that tightens the skin, my skin feels like it's itchy and dry, almost like there is nothing there. I talked to the ladies at the health food store and they thought maybe that the cells were shrinking or maybe I haven't done it long enough to penetrate the layers of skin. I'll try putting it on while still damp out of the shower before drying off, maybe that will help. I will continue for awhile and see what happens. It's just aggravating when I apply it, then lay on my stomach in bed to read and my back itches and feels like it's drying up. Any suggestions? Thank you for your time.

Suggestions for Using Coconut Oil on Dry Skin
by: Kevin

Hi Tammy, I found the best way to moisturize dry skin with coconut oil is by putting it on in the shower. I rub coconut oil between my palms to liquify it and then apply it all over while my skin is soaking wet. I use a lot of coconut oil so my skin gets really oily. Then I'll stand under the shower head to get a bit of a 'rinse' - although most of the oil stays on my skin. You can really see the water 'bead up' on my skin. Be careful because the floor of the shower/bathtub can get pretty slippery! Then I'll step out of the shower and lightly pat my skin dry, although I usually try to just let it air dry. I found this really moisturizes and softens my skin. Give this a try and I hope it works for you, too!
