Using Coconut Oil in Smoothies

What's the best way to use coconut oil in smoothies? I tried it in solid, but I get bits of it in my smoothie. Would warming it up in a microwave be a better way to use it? Just started it tonight for the first time.

Hi Lori, It may depend on the kind of coconut oil you're using to make your smoothies or the blender setting. I've used Garden of Life coconut oil, Nutiva coconut oil and Tropical Traditions coconut oil without any clumping. Perhaps you may need to use a higher speed setting on your blender? I've found the coconut oil usually blends right in and the smoothie comes out very creamy when I add coconut oil to it. Good luck and I hope this information is helpful.

I scoop a spoonful out of the jar, put it in a glass, and stick it in the microwave for 15 seconds or until melted. Or I set the whole jar of oil in a sink full of hot water until the top layer has melted. Then I pour it into the blender at the very end of the blending process. It's especially good in tropical flavored smoothies with pineapple. Sooooooo good!
