Using Coconut Oil for Luscious, Full Hair

I am an African American woman with chemically-treated hair. After using coconut oil as a deep conditioner for the first time, I noticed my hair was shinier, appeared thicker & longer, and full of body & life. I have gotten so many compliments and have since recommended coconut oil to several others. I also wash my hair with Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition and love it as well.

Coconut Oil on Relaxed Hair Works Wonders!
by: Anonymous

I am also African American and use coconut oil as an overnight deep conditioning treatment. I warm it in the microwave until it is fully melted and mildly warm then liberally apply it throughout my hair - moisturizing my roots but trying not to get the oil on my scalp. I have not had good luck with using it as a scalp oil. It seems to buildup on my scalp and cause itchiness. However, it does significantly soften my roots and make them easy to blow dry straight.

I do not use it as an everyday moisturizer because I find it is too greasy. Even in just using a tiny amount. I do use the oil mixed with water to smooth and soften my nape and edges and it works wonders. As a daily moisturizer, I use jojoba oil. J-oil does not leave a greasy feel. My hair feels soft and is shiny! BTW, my hair is thick, full, and past my bra strap.

Coconut oil is an excellent overnight treatment before washing the next morning. It does make my hair very shiny and healthy looking. My hair is relaxed and I also use Garnier Fructis. I use the Length and Strengh and also Tresseme Moisture Rich. Tresemme is the best! It makes my hair soooo soft!
