I am always looking for a better oil to cook in. Some people I have talked to say they are not frying ever again. I think that is too radical a decision for me to make, but using a healthy product to fry in would be nice.
I was at my friendly Health Food Store last month and the owner told me how he uses coconut oil for cooking and "frying in!" You would think a health food store owner would not fry anything, but like myself, he still has a love for certain things cooked that way.
When he told me he cooks his pancakes or fried potatoes in coconut oil and does not pat them after cooking (because he wants his food to soak as much of the oil as possible) I had to try it.
I cannot begin to tell you how amazing it is. Cooking with coconut oil is not like an oil - after it is heated, it feels like water. I add it to my recipes instead of oil or margarine. I use it to fry or deep-fry anything.
To top it off, I thought I would try it as a bath oil. My skin is very dry. I bath every night in coconut oil. I do not dry myself after, I just pat dry and I never have to use any skin moisturizer.
I was so amazed at how my skin felt after my bath that I thought I would try coconut oil on my hair. Before washing myself and after adding coconut oil to the bath water, I would wash my hair as usual and I rinse off the bath water with the coconut oil in it. My hair has never felt so good!
I am now looking for more ways to use coconut oil. I have read how good it is for us and how people have used it many years ago.
