Tea Tree Oil Does Kill Lice Bugs

by Ohio Mother

I put three parts tea tree oil to one part water and sprayed my daughter's hair(saturated) and waited about three min. I would have left it longer but it was burning her where she had scratched and I was worried of the strength. I didn't want her to touch it or get it in her mouth or eyes. After I rinsed, the lice were dead. I laid her on my counter with a white towel while I rinsed and combed. I found many dead bugs. I had used lice shampoo the day before on her and still found live bugs when going through her hair the next evening. The tea tree oil did kill the bugs. I knew it would because a few years ago my daughter got it, I got a live bug, put tea tree oil on the bug and it was dead literally within 5 seconds.

re: tea tree oil and head lice

Hi Ohio Mother - Thank you for sharing your experience with using tea tree oil on head lice. It's great to see you had such good results with using pure tea tree oil. I think some tea tree oil shampoos may not be strong enough for some cases of head lice; the 100% pure tea tree oil may be more suited for this purpose.
