Side Effects from Flaxseed Oil

Can you please tell me if flax seed oil has possible side effects like blood thinning (causing nosebleeds) or causing bleeding in hemorrhoids? I am talking about people already experiencing these problems - would flax seed oil make the problem worse?

Hi Ethel,

While flaxseed oil is a natural healthy oil, there are a few side effects that may occur for certain individuals.

Some scientists believe flaxseed oil may affect blood clotting factors. With this in mind, if someone is taking blood thinning medications or has a bleeding disorder, it may be help to contact their doctor before supplementing their diet with flaxseed oil.
