Over it with Tea Tree Oil

My two girls came home with head lice and we treated it with Nix and other lice treatments. However, this didn't work. They still had it. We fought it for about 6 months when finally we read on the internet about tea tree oil.

This is what we did. We bought unscented baby shampoo; this because it doesn't have any type of additives in it. We put an ounce of 100% tea tree oil in a 20 ounce bottle of baby shampoo. We then put it on their dry heads and lathered it in really good. Paying extra attention behind the ears and on the nape of the neck. We then covered their heads with a shower cap and left it on for about 30-40 minutes. We rinsed it out and made sure we didn't get it in their eyes.

There was nothing left alive. We then combed out and got rid of all the nits. Tea tree oil is an amazing treatment! We also put about 5 or 6 drops in their shampoo bottles (16oz bottles) and whenever they wash their hair when they take showers and wash their hair they use that. This is a safety precaution to prevent them from getting them again. Tea tree oil acts as a repellent.

We also put a few drops in a bottle of Febreeze and spray all of our furniture, carpets, curtains and drapes. The little buggers don't like it. It's a good idea to also put a few drops of it in your laundry detergent also.

Hair straighteners more effective than herbal treatments
by: Anonymous

I used tea tree oil to try and get rid of my lice but it didn't work. I have tried almost every remedy on the market and have had lice for almost 3 years. The most effective treatment has been A-lices. It killed all the lice but it gave me a funny feeling and I felt like it was interfering with my nervous system so I didn't repeat the treatment and the eggs hatched. Hair straighteners on dry hair have been controlling the population better than any of the herbal treatments I have tried. They kill the lice and eggs but some lice escape. I have spent hundreds of dollars and hours of time.

Tea Tree Oil and Bed Bugs
by: Ann Najjar

I wonder if I sprayed my mattress, would the bed bugs be killed?

Reply: You'd probably have to use a lot of tea tree oil in order to saturate the mattress to kill the bugs. The amount of oil needed would probably cause an over-powering scent of tea tree oil and you would probably not be able to use the mattress after that. Best bet is to use heat to kill all the bed bugs or throw out the mattress.

Thanks for sharing your experience with using tea tree oil on head lice. It's great to see you had such great results. I think it's a great idea to add the tea tree oil to shampoo as an preventative measure and the Febreeze idea is also great.
