I eat the whole flaxseed as I need the fiber and for me the whole seed is more easily eaten as I enjoy the texture much more than an oil. When I have a few seeds stuck in between my teeth and chew on a seed later, I can taste the oil coming from the seed. It is one of the only things that I can count on in keeping me eliminating my food properly. I have pledged to eat it everyday as I know how many benefits it has. The list is numerous. I feel that I am doing my body a huge favor by giving it a non-animal source of oil that has the essential fatty acids that we need to function.
