How to rinse the coconut oil from hair?

Just found out about this site and using coconut oil for hair (did know about the health benefits a long time). After having it in the hair you say "rinse" it away/out. Is that with water only or do you mean using shampoo? I tried Ambla, but it took forever to get it out of my hair. It was not the best quality or brand and it was the first time I used it, so maybe I overused it... Still would like some clarification before I jump onboard this coconut hair-train ;-) Love, Kosotie

Hi Kosotie, You may have to experiment with how much coconut oil to use. Everyone's hair is different and may need more or less coconut oil for the proper amount of conditioning. People with really dry coarse hair may need a bit more coconut oil than people with fine, limp hair.

The type of coconut oil you use is also important. I like to use only 100% pure virgin coconut oil for the best results. I have short hair and only use a tiny amount. I run it through my wet hair after I've shampooed and rinsed it. I leave the oil in for a few minutes, or for a real deep moisturizing treatment I'll leave it in overnight.

I always rinse my hair out with hot water. If I find my hair is a bit too oily after applying the coconut oil, I'll use a little bit of shampoo. I don't want to strip away all of the oils with the shampoo; I want to leave a fine coat of coconut oil on my hair so it can absorb into the hair shaft to soften and condition it.

If I use too much coconut oil, I find my hair can get really oily and it takes a couple of days of shampooing my hair to rinse it out.

I think this type of treatment is similar to figuring out how much skin lotion to use to moisturize your skin; if you use too much you're skin may feel greasy. The same principle applies to using coconut oil on your hair. You may have to experiment with smaller or larger amounts and gauge how your hair responds to the treatment.

Good luck and I hope you experience great results from using coconut oil on your hair.

Coconut oil

I heard about the coconut oil and I took a chance and used it on my daughter's hair. I use the hair dryer to dry her hair and her hair was so silky and soft. So far I'm satisfied with the results on how it turned out.
