Garden of Life coconut oil is reportedly made from fresh, 100% organically-grown coconuts. This company also produces an extensive line of fish oils and other whole food supplements.

The company, Garden of Life, was founded by Jordan Rubin. Information from the company website indicates that Jordan is firm believer in the use of "whole foods" and whole food supplementation. He believes whole foods are more easily used by the body for extracting maximum nutrients and health benefits.

Garden Of Life claims their coconut oil is made from the meat of fresh, organically-grown coconuts. This product is marketed as 100% vegetarian, non-GMO, not hydrogenated, refined, deodorized or bleached.

The fresh coconut meat is shredded and cold-pressed to produce coconut milk. The milk is then fermented, using very low heat, resulting in a nutritious dietary oil; minimal processing just as Mother Nature intended.

Here's a picture of my bottle of coconut oil I bought at a local organic food store. It's got the older label on it but it's still the same brand.

Although Garden of Life calls their coconut oil 'extra virgin', I don't think there's any difference between this and other high quality virgin organic coconut oils, such as Spectrum Coconut oil or Nutiva Coconut Oil.

This oil has a nice creamy texture to it and has the trademark scent of freshly picked coconuts.

Like all virgin coconut oils, I think it makes a great substitute for butters, margarine or shortening in baking and sauteing. It also makes a great skin and hair conditioner.
