Fish Oils and Arthritis

Fish Oils and Arthritis - Can you use these healthy oils to reduce or cure joint pain? Current research has discovered some amazing properties of fish oils and their role in reducing joint pain. Could this natural oil be an alternative to powerful painkillers? Here are some studies on the latest research on fish oils and their health benefits related to arthritis.

Doctors Discover Fish Oils Decrease Joint Pain and Boost Energy

Brazil - It appears what types of oil you get in your diet will go a long way to fighting joint pain. Doctors in Brazil took a group of arthritis patients and gave them 3 types of diets. One group received fish oils, another received fish oils with olive oil and the final group took a placebo.

Researchers found the patients getting fish oils experienced a major improvement in hand strength. And at 12 weeks of treatment they had decreased joint pain. And looking at the same patients 6 months later, they found it easier to bend over and pick items off the floor, there was a delayed onset of fatigue, and experienced improved mobility in everyday activities, such as getting in and out of the car.

Eating a Vegetarian Diet and Fish Oils Brings Relief to Arthritis Sufferers

steak

One of my favorite things to eat is a nice juicy steak, right off the grill. If I had my way, I'd eat steak, prime rib and hamburgers all the time.

As a bodybuilder, I love getting my protein from red meat. But what if my meat-eating habits may contribute to getting arthritis?

Well, it turns out researchers in Germany think this may be the case. Scientists from Munich believe eating lots of meat may cause your body to produce high levels of arachidonic acid, a chemical responsible for causing inflammation.

In this study, doctors looked at 3 groups of patients who ate different diets. One group at a meat-based diet, another ate a vegetarian diet and the 3rd group ate a vegetarian diet with fish oils.

vegetarian diet

It turns out eating a vegetarian diet lead to a decrease in the number of swollen and tender joints. And amazingly enough, eating a vegetarian diet along with fish oil supplements, lead to the greatest decrease in arthritis symptoms!

Kind of makes you want to go 'Vegan' doesn't it? It appears a vegetarian diet (low in arachidonic acid) may offer pain relief from arthritis. Throw some fish oils into the mix and it appears to increase the effect. Seems like a good recipe for joint pain relief.

Patients Experience Relief from Arthritis Pain with Fish Oils

Australia - Doctors had a group of rheumatoid arthritis patients take either:

  • 3 - 6 capsules of omega 3 fish oils
  • olive oil/corn oil mixture

Patients taking fish oils took a dose based on their weight. For every kilogram of bodyweight they received 40 mg. of omega 3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA. For example, a 75 kg. (165 lbs.) man would get 3000 mg. of omega 3's per day.

And again it was found that patients taking fish oils experienced decreased joint pain. It appears using fish oils and arthritis relief go hand in hand.
