Freedom from joint pain? Research has opened new doors in the field of fish oils and arthritis pain relief. Could this natural oil be an alternative to powerful painkillers?
Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most common joint conditions affecting 1 in every 100 people.
Below you'll read about the health benefits of using fish oils and arthritis pain relief.
Brazil - Doctors took a group of 34 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and split them into 3 groups:
Patients taking fish oils experienced a major improvement in hand strength. And at 12 weeks of treatment they experienced decreased joint pain.
Looking at the patients 6 months later, the fish oil groups saw even more improvements.
They found it easier to bend over and pick items off the floor and there was a delayed onset of fatigue. They also experienced improved mobility in everyday activities, such as getting in and out of the car.
Researchers concluded that omega 3 fish oils offer pain relief from arthritis.
One of my favorite things to eat is a nice juicy steak, right off the grill. If I had my way, I'd eat steak, prime rib and hamburgers all the time.
As a bodybuilder, I love getting my protein from red meat. But what if my meat-eating habits may contribute to getting arthritis?
Well, it turns out researchers in Germany think that is just the case. Scientists from Munich believe eating lots of meat will cause your body to produce high levels of arachidonic acid, a chemical responsible for causing inflammation.
Based on this premise, the doctors took 68 patients altered their diets to see what would happen.
It turns out eating a vegetarian diet leads to a decrease in the number of swollen and tender joints.
And amazingly enough, eating a vegetarian diet along with fish oil supplements, lead to the greatest decrease in arthritis symptoms!
Researchers also saw a decrease in inflammatory-causing chemicals and an increase in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in the blood.
Kind of makes you want to go 'Vegan' doesn't it? It appears a vegetarian diet (low in arachidonic acid) may offer pain relief from arthritis. Throw some fish oils into the mix and it appears to increase the effect. Seems like a good recipe for joint pain relief.
Australia - Doctors had a group of rheumatoid arthritis patients take either:
Patients taking fish oils took a dose based on their weight. For every kilogram of bodyweight they received 40 mg. of omega 3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA. For example, a 75 kg. (165 lbs.) man would get 3000 mg. of omega 3's per day.
Surprisingly, the patients taking fish oils experienced decreased joint pain. It appears using fish oils and arthritis relief go hand in hand.
