On Fish Oils and Arthritis - Page 1 you read a number of studies showing fish oil's effects on arthritic joint pain. Here are a few more studies on fish oils and arthritis pain relief for your information:
New York - Doctors at a hospital in Albany, New York had their rheumatoid arthritis patients take at least 3 grams of Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for at least 3 months.
Could this reduce their symptoms and improve their quality of life?
At the end of the study, patients had:
Pretty great results from this healthy nutrtient.
A similar study in Sweden monitored 43 patients for six months. They were given 10 grams/day of fish oils.
Researchers concluded that fish oils have significant anti-inflammatory properties and may help lessen the amount of anti-inflammatory drugs needed to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
A study lasting 30 weeks had patients take either fish oils or corn oil. The fish oils were prescribed by weight at 130 mg/kg/day. This means a 75 kg. (165 lbs.) woman would take 9750 mg/day of fish oils. The corn oil dose was 9 capsules/day.
Part way through the study, doctors substituted the anti-inflammatory drug normally taken with a placebo.
Patients continued taking their fish oil supplements during this period. By switching the drug with a placebo, researchers will be able to see if fish oils really have an anti-inflammatory effect.
And the results are:
It turns out patients taking fish oils had a measurable reduction in joint pain, morning stiffness, and joint tenderness.
And what about the fish oil patients who had their anti-inflammatory drugs switched with a placebo? They also experienced a decrease in the number of tender joints...eight weeks without any anti-inflammatory medication!
Researchers also learned that fish oils reduced the amount of chemicals that cause inflammation. Talk about a double-whammy of relief.
Unfortunately, there was no clinical change with patients who took the corn oil.
The research looks promising for fish oils and arthritis. One of the main benefits is pain relief from arthritis.
Other benefits from omega 3 fish oils and arthritis are:
Research shows omega 3 fatty acids in fish oils (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid ) help reduce inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis.
Some research suggests you might get a stronger effect by following an 'arthritis diet'. Or more specifically, a diet low in arachidonic acid and including lots of oily fish or fish oil supplements.
Experts believe a diet high in arachidonic acid may contribute to inflammation in your body. Foods rich in arachidonic acid include animal meats, egg yolks and shellfish. Avoiding these foods may help reduce inflammation in your body.
Research proves fish oils help reduce inflammation. They reduce the amount of non-steroidal medication needed to manage symptoms and improve grip strength.
Fighting inflammation is one of the key methods to reducing pain, swelling and improving range of motion in arthritis patients.
Traditional corticosteroids are effective, but may cause undesired side effects including weight gain, weakened immune system and brittle bones.
Research proves a high quality fish oil, that's proven to fight inflammation, will reduce joint pain, tender joints and swelling.
Not all fish oils will accomplish these effects. You need a fish oil that has proven anti-inflammatory benefits and is high in omega 3 concentrates.
One brand of fish oil that meets these criteria are produced by Dr. Barry Sears.
Dr. Sears created a specialized high-dose fish oil
called Zone Labs Omega 3 Concentrates.
These pharmaceutical-grade oils are proven to give you greater anti-inflammatory effects than any traditional fish oil.
Dr. Sears fish oils received the highest rating from the International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS). The IFOS tests the quality and purity of fish oils from all over the world. Not all fish oils can get this high of a rating.
Your body deserves the highest quality nutrients for maximum anti-inflammatory control. Using a high quality fish oil, such as Zone Labs Omega 3 Concentrates may help your body fight inflammation and reduce the symptoms of arthritic pain and discomfort.
