First try on 14/09/10 - Soft hair but dull.....

First time I've tried coconut oil, but as I have dry, frizzy and coarse curls and am 40-something I thought I'd give it a go. I hennaed my hair around three weeks ago - it was lovely for a week, but then that wonderful shine and softness succumbed to my hair's natural tendency to frizz.

Tried the coconut oil by applying to washed, towel dried hair. left it on for 20 minutes (I was tight for time). I used Fushi Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. It took me three washes to get most of it out. Blow dried my hair and it's wonderfully soft. Only slight disappointment is that it left a certain dullness, but I think - even though I was trying to be frugal with the oil - I probably added too much. This should come out next I wash, I suspect. I didn't use any other conditioner or styling product, and my hair feels lovely. The curls are better defined too. All in all, I'm pleased.

re: soft hair but dull with coconut oil

Hi Sue, Great to see you had such wonderful results from using coconut oil on your hair. To remedy the dull look after using coconut oil you could try applying the oil while your hair is still wet and then wrap your head.

Here's what I do: Apply the coconut oil to slightly damp hair and then wrapping the hair in a plastic bonnet (you could also try covering your head with plastic wrap). Leave this on for about an hour and then rinse out. I usually try not to completely rinse out the coconut oil as I like to give it time to slowly absorb into my hair over a couple of days. The only drawback with this is my hair looks a little oily for a day or so....

However, I found my hair looks really shiny and feels soft by the second or third day after the coconut oil treatment. Everyone's hair is different so I don't know if this will give any different results that you've achieved. Nevertheless, good luck and I hope this works for you.
