Can you use emu oil for stretch marks and is it safe for an unborn baby? My daughter is pregnant with her 1st baby and I'm trying to find out what is best way to prevent stretch marks or lessen their appearance.

Hi Marge,

Stretch marks are caused when tiny tears occur in the dermis and results in scarring.

You can use emu oil on stretch marks. It's one of the few natural oils that can:

  • Penetrate the top layers of your skin where it's needed most

  • Reduce swelling and muscle soreness

  • Reduce anti-inflammatory chemicals in your skin

  • Won't irritate your skin

  • Helps heal burns and minor scratches

  • Increases skin growth factors which may prevent and reduce scarring


Emu oil is an natural moisturizer and helps keep skin healthy and supple. This may help prevent the formation of stretch marks.

Once the stretch mark has formed, it is a lot harder to make the scar dissappear as it occurs under the top layer of the skin
