What is the daily recommended dosage for lowering cholesterol?
Reply: Studies have found virgin coconut oil may cause a reduction in cholesterol. A study from the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Kerala, India found virgin coconut oil reduced LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides. Another study from Germany found that eating coconut oil resulted in either no changes or a decrease of 26% in cholesterol levels. Here are more studies on coconut oil and cholesterol.
Unfortunately, studies showing this cholesterol lowering effect failed to show the exact amount of coconut that was added to the diet. This lack of detail may make it hard to determine the exact dosage required to enhance a cholesterol-lowering effect.
If you choose to add coconut oil to your diet, it's recommended you consult your physician. Studies show virgin coconut oil is not an unhealthy saturated fat and may help re-balance cholesterol levels.
