Coconut Oil Wonders!

by Lia
(Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

I did a bit of research about the benefits of coconut oil last night and was surprised to find that it could repair dry and damaged hair. I blowdry and straighten my hair practically every day, and have done this for a couple of years. If I leave it to dry naturally, I end up with a giant poof of wavy frizz. However, the constant heat from the dryer and iron have left my hair dry, brittle, and filled with split ends. I have tried Ojon Hair Products, which work pretty well, but are rather pricey. I jumped on the opportunity to try coconut oil instead. Before I went to bed, I found an old bottle of pure coconut oil that my dad had bought from Vietnam several years ago. I warmed it up in the microwave for a couple seconds and then coated my hair with the oil. Then i just tied it into a tight bun and went to sleep. When I had my shower in the morning, my hair was noticably softer and sleeker. There was less frizz, and the overall appearance of my hair was improved. After styling my hair, I touched up some stray hairs with a little dip of coconut oil, which worked really well to tame frizz, much like an anti-frizz serum you can buy off the shelves. So after just one night, the coconut oil has done wonders for my hair! I'm excited to try it again tonight!

Hi Lia,

Happy to read you got great results from using coconut oil on your hair. I use it whenever my hair needs some deep conditioning and moisturizing. I find coconut oil works better than a lot of the hair conditioners I've used in the past, and it seems to last longer too!

Afro hair loves virgin coconut oil
by: Anonymous

I have natural African American hair and I was using Vatika oil which is pure coconut infused with indian herbs. It's good but my hair was still dry then I started using organic virgin coconut oil and this stuff is the bomb. I also use shea butter and my afro loves it and it's thicker and softer. So I recommend organic virgin coconut oil, I think it's better than the pure coconut oil - more rich and it gives a better effect and I use 100% shea butter as well. So those African Americans that want their hair to grow long and thick here's what you need organic virgin coconut oil and 100% shea butter and your hair will be long strong and thick and never dry. Please try you will see results! P.S. I love the health food store! lol
