Coconut oil on facial eczema turning spots red. Stop or wait it out?

I have dry skin with patches of eczema on my eyelids and other spots on my face. After cleaning my face with Cetaphil, I have been applying virgin coconut oil to my face for 3 days now in hopes it will help my eczema. The eczema patches turn red and seem to make my eyes puffy. Is this part of the healing process so I should wait it out or shall I stop? I also have eczema on my hand and have been applying it there as well. It doesn't turn red but I can't tell if it has helped yet or not but at least it doesn't seem to have hurt it. In searching for answers, I noticed you suggest emu oil for eczema and am willing to try it out if the coconut oil is not effective. Thanks!

re: using coconut oil on facial eczema

Hi Channa, I'm not a doctor so unable to provide diagnosis or treatment for your specific skin condition. However, I would not continue using coconut oil on eczema patches if they are becoming more red and inflamed after exposure to coconut oil.

The difference between virgin coconut oil and emu oil is that emu oil has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. These properties may help reduce inflammation in certain skin conditions. Animal studies show emu oil increased healing in burns and accelerated skin growth.
