Ok I have just started eating coconut oil. It is very filling, which is wonderful but I can't help but panic that I will be gaining weight by the minute eating so much fat! Will coconut oil make me fat?

Hi Claudette,

Virgin coconut oil contains a healthy fat called medium chain triglycerides. Studies show your body digests these fats more easily than other fats. In fact, they follow a completely different pathway when eaten. They're sent directly to your liver to be metabolized and converted into a rapid source of energy. This may lead to an increase in your metabolism; improving your chances for faster weight loss and providing more energy.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found patients lost more weight when they included medium chain triglycerides in their diet, compared to a diet using olive oil.

Here's more information on losing weight with coconut oil that you may find helpful.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the health benefits of virgin coconut oil.
