Are Emu Oil Ingredients Safe for Eczema?

by Francine Laurin
(Ottawa, Ontario Canada)

My daughter has severe allergies to both peanuts and tree nuts. She has eczema and I would like her to use emu oil instead of medication. I was wondering if it's a safe product for her?

Replys: Hi Francine: Emu oil is comprised of essential fatty acids. Here's more detailed information on emu oil ingredients.

Emu oil is considered to be non-comedogenic and non-allergenic. It is also reported to reduce inflammation and enhance skin healing.

When I first tried emu oil I tested it on a small patch of skin on my arm before using it more extensively. My son had a mild case of eczema on his arms and I tried using emu oil. It did reduce the redness but I found he got better results from supplementing his diet with flaxseed oil and fish oil supplements.

I'm not a doctor or dermatologist so I can't recommend whether this product would be effective for your daughter's particular skin condition.

Good luck and I wish you and your daughter good health! ~ Kevin L.
